Scene 1

Scene 1 is located in the brewery building from 1966, with white concrete walls, a ceiling height of 7,5 meters, with large windows. The space can easily be converted to white cube or black box. The floor is painted concrete. A stage can be quickly assembled using building modules. For theatrical and dance shows, for example, the space converts into an amphitheatre with 90 seats and a 6x8 square meter stage area. Access to Scene 1 is from Tou Vindu (Tou Window) and Tou Café Bar. There is an additional exit out onto the roof terrace.

Tou Cafe Bar

CafeLampe kopi.jpg

The Café Bar is a relatively new feature, dating back to Tou's rehabilitation process in 2005. The space is characterised by large windows and tall glazed doors which provide access to a splendid roof terrace with a stunning panoramic view to the fjord and surrounding mountains. Tou Café Bar is the connection point between Scene 1 and Scene 2, allowing for these spaces to function either as one large unit together or as separate entities. The Café Bar has a range of highly unusual details and structural features, such as quirky reclaimed furniture and recycled materials in the ceiling and general décor. Tou Café Bar is open daily from 11 am.  Tou Cafe Bar info

Tou Window
IMG_1683.jpg
Tou Vindu is a project space for visual art, which simultaneously provides a foyer to Scene 1. The large window is a distinguishing feature which clearly exposes this space to view from the large courtyard outside Tou Scene.
Foaje

Having entered Tou Scene through the main door, you suddenly find yourself on the inside of a very large steel tank. The walls of this unusual space are covered with reddish brown rust, and the acoustic qualities of this steel clad structure have been put to use in an installation piece based around piano strings. From this location, the public is led through a little labyrinth, ascending through a small staircase, past the toilets and descending down to the other side, only to arrive at the main stairway. The foyer is the perfect space for sound installations and visual projections. The space frequently fulfils a more practical purpose as the site for ticket/information desks during festivals, etc.
Bunkeren
Bunker_1666.jpg
This is a quasi-cubic room, floor to ceiling concrete. The ceiling height is in excess of five metres, with walls that are white-washed up to a height of two metres. This is a particularly fitting space for photographic exhibitions, installations, wall art, workshops, etc. Entrance from street level.
The Loft (attic)

This airy space is crowned by a beautiful ceiling structure, dating back one hundred years. The dark and warm lustre of the wood contributes to the soothing qualities of the room. The attic functions as a lounge and as a location for parties and conferences.

This is a large complex of old storage halls (or lagering halls – hence the expression “lager” for beer), consisting of a vestibule, a fifty metre long corridor, and nine halls, each measuring ninety square metres. The walls are white-washed concrete. The beer halls are used for concerts, exhibitions, and installations. Technical equipment is rigged up for each individual event. Access to toilets is via the main building. This vast space has tremendous potential but has, as of yet, not been renovated. Because of this, the air quality is not optimal. Entrance from street level.
Area: 1500 square metres all in all, but currently not accessible in its totality

The public spaces
touscene_øst.jpg
In its vast totality, the brewery complex makes for a space of around 13,000 square metres. Out of this, Tou Scene currently has at its disposal roughly 2,000 square metres. Half of this space is accessible to the public. These rooms represent a plethora of architectural and structural styles.
Scene 2

Scene2.jpg

Scene 2 is located in the old brewery building, dating back to 1924. This is an unusual space with grand marble walls: evocative reminders from the glory days of Tou’s industrial splendour. The room is, in a sense, inhabited by the very "soul" or essence of Tou Scene, and was the first space to be put into use for creative exploits in June 2001. The lower level (concrete floor) and the upper level (wooden floor) connect through a little marble staircase. Suitable for smaller concerts, performances, shows and screenings. A typical stage size for this space would be 4x3 or 4x2 meters.
