KEEP UP TO DATE WITH OUR PROGRAM SERIES

*Tou Natt (Tou Night) is a monthly highlight at Tou Scene, characterized by an eclectic mix of genres, high energy and good vibes. Previous events have included a lit bonfire next to the main entrance, putting a cocktail bar in the lift, a naked stunt in the café, musical meditation in the beer halls, and an electric violinist (fiddler) on the roof. These are but a few of the weird and wonderful things you may come to experience at Tou Night. The evening typically culminates with one or more fabulous bands and DJs. The audience is free to roam around the buildings and Tou´s considerable spatial potential is utilised to the maximum.

Barn av Tou (Children of Tou) takes place on Saturdays from 12 pm, usually once a month. Lots of weird things can be experienced here and you can also get actively involved in it! Sometimes we make things, other times we put on theatrical plays, or we make music. Grethe Bekkevold works as an art intermediary and heads the series, which is aimed at introducing children to art. Sometimes she chooses to bring in an artist who uses her/his own work as a starting point. We always notify in advance which events are age-specific or appropriate for younger/older children/people of all ages. Keep posted and join us! Tickets are 50 kroner for one child, and a reduced price of 30 kroner for any other family members who want to join in.

Garasje (Garage) is the name that has been attached to a series of concerts in the beer halls – also referred to as Scene 3. The series has a proper underground-vibe: head straight in from the street level and onto the concrete floor to find a pretty basic (and cheap!) bar, and raw, experimental, energetic music. A concert series that is still undergoing something of an identity crisis, but sooner or later will surely find its form.

Indie Nights
is a third-weekly event presenting young up-and-coming bands from the Norwegian Indie Rock scene. What is this Indie Rock? Well, it is a concept that cannot really be defined…it started with some artists who decided to produce their own records, narrowing their music down to a particular genre. But in more recent times, the genre concept is being teased open and artists have decided to expand their music beyond the style confines of their initial musical ventures. INDIE NIGHTS presents you with a wide musical spectrum, from the softer singer/songwriter ideal to the more raw and untamed energy of Emo/Punk.

Innbrudd (Break-In) is not strictly jazz, but perhaps jazz too. The series presents improvised music, hybrid music and – more importantly – exciting music beyond the middle-of-the-road. Contrasting combinations are often on the agenda.

Knekk en Takt
(Break a Beat) is a clubbing series with electronic dance music, mainly from the breacore genre, but also from related styles (gabber, drum´n´bass, jungle, dubstep, techstep, hardcore, etc.). Breakcore first arose as a protest against established techno- and rave-music. It is characterised by high tempo, noise, fragmentation and distortion of existing samples and breaks, creating a vital and independent music style which does as it pleases but also gets the crowd going on the dance floor.

NuMusic
, or the West Coast Festival of Numusic, is one of Northern Europe´s leading festivals for club-based electronic music. Tou Scene is used as the main arena for the festival, which takes place yearly in the early part of September. The NuMusic festival also has an accompanying visual-arts program entitled NUART. www.numusic.no

Ny Musikk is one of the regular promoters at Tou Scene. Ny Musikk is a Norwegian organisation (associated with ISCM) with local divisions in several cities. Ny Musikk Rogaland promotes concerts within classical contemporary music, improvised music, and genre-bending/cross-over art music. www.nymusikk.no

Performance Day is held once a year. The aim is to stimulate the local LIVE ART scene, coupled with artists of a high national and international calibre.

Salong (Salon) is a forum for debate and exchange of ideas and experiences between different artists.

Site Under Construction signalled the first series of events at Tou Scene, starting off in 2001. This is a whole weekend worth of happenings across genres and artistic expressions. In 2005 two thematically different “Site under Construction” were held.

Tinnitus is the series dedicated to a pure listening experience. We have chosen to present artists with a strong reputation who prefer to go their own ways, within fields such as sound art, noise music, and alternative instrumentation. The Norwegian saying “to wash your ears” comes to mind. More people should do this more often! We prefer to pause for a little while before setting up the next concert, waiting patiently until we get our hands on another juicy morsel to share with the audience.

Tou Kunsthall
is a curator project in the beer halls at Tou Scene.

Tou Vindu (Tou Window) is an exhibition space for visual art – a clearly visible feature on the façade of Tou Scene. A huge glazed window fronts the modernist concrete extension from 1966, enabling exhibitions to be seen both from inside and outside the building.

Tou Works is a project aimed at generating new art. Tou Works advertises opportunities for new projects, targeting international and Norwegian artists, then bringing them together for “Worklabs” in Stavanger. The outcome of this process is should be diverse and quite unpredictable. Tou Works starts in 2008, in cooperation with Stavanger2008, as part of the initiatives sparked off by the city´s current status as a European Capital of Culture.

Zang is a regular promoter at Tou Scene. Zang is identical with Pål Asle Pettersen and Helge Olav Øksendal, who present electronic music, often with a special theme attached for the day. www.zang.no
